A wire stripper, also known as a cable stripper, is one of the commonly used tools for electricians. It is mainly used to strip off the surface insulation layer at the end of wires.
Structural Composition
A wire stripper mainly consists of a cutting edge, a crimping mouth, and a handle. The handle is usually covered with an insulating sleeve with a rated working voltage of 500V to ensure safety during use.
Working Principle
When the handle of the wire stripper is squeezed tightly, the spring is first compressed, and the clamping mechanism clamps the wire. At this time, the cutting mechanism does not move under the action of the torsion spring. After the clamping mechanism fully clamps the wire, the torsion spring is deformed by force, and the cutting mechanism starts to work to cut the wire insulation. Subsequently, when another torsion spring is subjected to a certain degree of force, the clamping mechanism separates from the cutting mechanism, allowing the cut insulation layer to detach from the wire, thereby achieving the purpose of stripping.

Types
Manual Wire Stripper: It is the most basic type and requires the user to apply force manually for stripping. The common scissor-type design separates the insulation layer from the wire by applying pressure through the handle. There is also a manual wire stripper with notches of different sizes; users can select the corresponding notch according to the thickness of the wire, and strip the wire by directly clamping it without twisting. Manual wire strippers are relatively inexpensive and suitable for small-scale, precise stripping tasks.
Automatic Wire Stripper: It adopts a spring-loaded mechanism. When the handle is squeezed, it can automatically adjust to the appropriate wire size and strip the insulation layer without manual adjustment. It features fast operation speed and high efficiency, making it suitable for large-scale stripping work.
Specifications
The specifications of wire strippers are usually expressed by their total length, with common sizes including 140 millimeters, 160 millimeters, 180 millimeters, etc.
Materials
There are various options for the body material of wire strippers, such as zinc alloy, stainless steel, high-carbon steel, manganese steel, etc. Wire strippers made of zinc alloy are sturdy and durable; those made of stainless steel have good rust resistance; and those made of high-carbon steel and manganese steel have high hardness and strong wear resistance.
Features
Wire strippers have the characteristics of high stripping quality and no damage to the wire core. Some multi-functional wire strippers also have functions such as wire cutting and terminal crimping, which can adapt to different types and cross-sections of wires. Some automatic wire strippers can also automatically adjust the stripping caliber according to the cross-sectional size of the cable, making them easy and efficient to use.
